Currency and cash

Exchange at the airport, banks, or counters in the city. Using cards alongside cash is reassuring.

How it works

1. Where to exchange

You can exchange money at Gimhae Airport, banks in the city, or currency counters. The airport is convenient right after arrival, but rates vary by place, so it helps to compare with city banks and counters too.

2. Cards and cash

Card payment is widespread — hotels, restaurants, and convenience stores accept cards. Markets and small eateries, however, are sometimes cash only. Carrying a little cash is reassuring.

3. ATMs

ATMs that accept overseas-issued cards are available at banks' global ATMs. Depending on the machine there may be a fee or a per-withdrawal limit. Read the on-screen prompts as you go.

Tips

  • Carrying some small notes and coins is reassuring.
  • Amounts are shown in ₩ (won); with so many digits, count carefully.
  • A handy rule: cash at markets, card elsewhere.
